【ロサンゼルス】第84回米アカデミー賞授賞式が26日夜、ロサンゼルスで開催された。
ハリウッドのエリートらはこの機会を利用し、映画の歴史をたたえるとともに、映画の重要性は今後も変わらないことを力説した。
アカデミー賞作品賞は、無声映画時代を描いた白黒の仏コメディー映画『アーティスト』が獲得。主演を務めたフランス人俳優、
ジョン・デュジャルダンは主演男優賞を受賞した。デュジャルダンは受賞スピーチで
「わたしは、あなたがたの国を愛している」と語った。
主演女優賞は、『マーガレット・サッチャー
鉄の女の涙』で元英国首相マーガレット・サッチャーを演じた
メリル・ストリープが獲得。ストリープは今回を含めオスカーに17回ノミネートされており、受賞は3度目。
監督賞は『アーティスト』のミシェル・アザナヴィシウス監督が初受賞した。
今回最多11部門にノミネートされていたのは、無声映画監督のジョージ・メリエスにオマージュをささげた
マーティン・スコセッシ監督の３Ｄ（3次元）映画『ヒューゴの不思議な発明』。1930年代のパリを舞台にベン・キングズレー演じる
メリエス監督とエイサ・バターフィールド演じる駅舎に住む孤児の少年ヒューゴの交流を描いた家族向けの映画。
『ヒューゴ』は最終的に、撮影賞、美術賞、音響編集賞、視覚効果賞、音響録音賞の5部門で賞を獲得した。
だが、今年のアカデミー賞を制したのは作品賞、監督賞、主演男優賞、衣装デザイン賞、作曲賞を獲得した『アーティスト』だった。
助演男優賞は、『人生はビギナーズ』で晩年にゲイであることを告白する老人を演じた82歳のベテラン俳優、
クリストファー・プラマー。史上最高齢でのオスカー初受賞となった。
助演女優賞は、『ヘルプ〜心がつなぐストーリー〜』で、負けん気の強い、パイ作りが得意なメイド役を演じたオクタビア・スペンサー。
オリジナル脚本賞は、ウディ・アレンが脚本と監督を手掛けた『ミッドナイト・イン・パリ』が獲得。
コメディー俳優のオーウェン・ウィルソン演じる米国人作家がなぜか突然1920年代のパリにタイムスリップするという話。
現在までの興行収入は5660万ドル（約46億円）に上り、アレンにとって過去最大のヒット作品となった。
脚色賞は、アレクサンダー・ペインが脚色と監督を手掛けた『ファミリー・ツリー』が獲得。
ハワイを舞台にしたカウイ・ハート・ヘミングスの小説が原作で、家族の崩壊に直面する主役の父親をジョージ・クルーニーが演じている。
ペインは2004年にも『サイドウェイ』で脚色賞を受賞している。
外国語映画賞は、イランの家族をテーマにした『別離』が受賞。イラン映画初の同賞受賞となった。
授賞式プロデューサーのブライアン・グレイザーとドン・ミッシャーは、
式プログラムに寄せた文章の中でアカデミー賞の重要性を次のように力説した。
「今や地球上には住む場所や文化の異なる70億人の人々がいて、本来互いを結び付ることを目的とした技術によって
孤立はむしろ深まっている。だが、そんな世の中にあっても映画やそれによって表現されるテーマは国境を超越する。
それを体験させてくれる作品に賛辞を送る場が、こよいの祭典だ」

'The Artist' Wins Big as Oscar Romances Past
LOS ANGELES?Hollywood's elite used the 84th annual Academy Awards on
Sunday night to celebrate cinematic history
and make an extended pitch for
the continued relevance of the movies.
Tributes to famous films of bygone
eras - and the best-picture winner,
"The Artist," set in the early days of
the movie business - cast a warm spotlight on the industry's past.
Emcee
Billy Crystal also was a throwback of sorts, returning to a role he played many
times in the 1990s
but hadn't reprised since 2004.
"The Artist" star Jean
Dujardin won the leading-actor Oscar for his performance as George
Valentin,
a silent-film actor who refuses to adjust his technique for the
sound era.
"I love your country," said the French actor in his
speech.
Meryl Streep accepted the Oscar for best performance of an actress in
a leading role for "The Iron Lady."
In the drama, Ms. Streep plays former
British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
The win is Ms. Streep's third
statue after 17 nominations; she previously won
a supporting actress Oscar
for 1979's "Kramer vs. Kramer" and a best-actress Oscar for 1982's "Sophie's
Choice."
The Oscar show's film clips and interview montages and Mr.
Crystal's banter added up to an argument
for the power of cinema as the film
industry grapples with new competition from the Internet,
which is forcing
Hollywood to find new ways of reaching its customers and clamp down on
piracy.
French filmmaker Michel Hazanavicius won his first Oscar for
directing "The Artist."
He was considered a front-runner for the
award,
having won the best director award from the Directors Guild of America
and other organizations.
Octavia Spencer won the best supporting actress Oscar for her role as a
feisty, pie-making housemaid in "The Help."
"Thank you, Academy for putting
me with the hottest guy in the room," said Ms. Spencer,
who received a
standing ovation after being helped to the stage by her "Help" director, Tate
Taylor.
"I'm sorry I'm freaking out. Thank you, world," she said, before
turning from the microphone in tears and heading off the stage.
Best
original screenplay went to "Midnight in Paris," written by Woody Allen, who
also directed the film.
The comedy stars Owen Wilson as an American writer
who is able to magically travel back to 1920s Paris.
Released by Sony Corp.'s
Sony Pictures Classics, "Midnight in Paris" has grossed $56.6 million to
date,
making it the biggest box office hit of Mr. Allen's career. Mr. Allen,
who rarely shows up for awards ceremonies,
didn't accept his statue in
person. He now has won three Oscars.
The award for best adapted screenplay
went to "The Descendants," written by Alexander Payne, who also directed the
film,
and the writing team of Nat Faxon and Jim Rash.
The Hawaiian drama,
which stars George Clooney as a grieving family man, is based on the novel by
Kaui Hart Hemmings.
Mr. Payne won an adapted screenplay award for 2004's
"Sideways."
"A Separation," a family drama from Iran, won the award for best
foreign language film.
The drama was the first film from Iran to win that
Oscar.
The producers of the show, Brian Grazer and Don Mischer,
used a
note in the show's program to argue for the continued relevance of the
awards.
"In a world with seven billion people, separated by geography and
culture,
and becoming even more isolated by the very technology that was
designed to connect us,
movies and what they represent transcend borders,"
they wrote.
"It is that experience that we celebrate
tonight."

と思って検索してみましたら、プライス・ウォーターハウス・クーパースのサイトを見ますと、
アカデミー賞授賞式では毎年プライス・ウォーターハウス・クーパースが投票用紙を運んでいるようです。
