物価水準の違いというのは大きいですね。
何億食売れても、日本円に換算すると非常に小さな売上高になります。
仮に黒字だとしても、売上高自体が小さいですから、利益額も非常に小さいわけです。
新興国では意外なことに儲けが少ない、といったことをよく聞きますが、それは経済の成熟度やライバル企業との競争要因の他に、
物価水準そのものが影響しているのでしょう。
新興国の経営が難しいのは、物価水準の低さが原因でもあるのでしょう。

ただ、今後、経済成長に伴って物価水準が上がってきますと、売上高や利益額も拡大してきます。
今は市場シェアの拡大やブランド認知度の向上に力を注ぐべき我慢の時期かもしれません。
一般的な話をしますと、企業経営の観点からは、ごく僅かな物価上昇が緩やかな続くことが望ましいのです。
物価下落は一般的には売上の減少につながり非常に経営を圧迫します。
新興国における経営では、市場シェアを獲得しブランドも十分に浸透させた後は、
当該国においてじっと適度なインフレを待つ、という戦略になるのかもしれません。

世界で最も著名な企業の1つが、信頼のおける口の堅い人材を本社で募集している。
　ビジネス専門の米ソーシャル・ネットワーキング・サイト（ＳＮＳ）、
リンクトインに6日に投稿されたメッセージによると、米著名投資家、ウォーレン・バフェット氏率いる
バークシャー・ハザウェイの投資チームが、電話応対やメールの整理、スケジュール調整をしてくれる
エグゼクティブ・アシスタントを探している。
　マイクロソフトの表計算ソフト「エクセル」と文書作成ソフト「ワード」の知識が必須だ。
さらに「積極的で、チーム志向的なアプローチができること」とリンクトインに掲載された募集案内にはある。
　「極めて機密性の高い情報を扱うことができる人」ともあるが、バフェット氏の投資に対する投資家の利害を考えれば、
控え目過ぎる言い方かもしれない。
　バフェット氏は、巨大な複合企業、バークシャーをネブラスカ州オマハ本社の最小限のスタッフだけで
運営していることで知られている（昨年の年次報告書によると、本社の人員は21人）。
しがたって、採用されれば間違いなくバフェット氏と共に過ごす機会があるだろう。
　バフェット氏自身は既に数名のアシスタントを抱えている（それらアシスタントに人材募集の真偽を確認したが、
すぐに回答は得られなかった）。募集案内の文面からすると、バフェット氏に直接付くのではなく、
最近採用された2人のポートフォリオ・マネジャー、トッド・コームズ氏と
テッド・ウェシュラー氏付きのアシスタントになる可能性がある。
　応募者は大勢いそうだ。ディールジャーナルに今回の人材募集の件を教えてくれたバークシャーに投資している
アルキトス・キャピタル・マネジメントのスティーブン・キール氏は次のように話す。
「あの会社なら給料をもらうどころか、カネを払ってでも働きたいという人がいるだろう」

Want to Work for Berkshire Hathaway?

Wanted: A dependable, secret-keeping type to help out in the home office of one of the world’s most famous companies.
According to a posting that went up on LinkedIn today (see the posting below), the investment team for
Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway needs a new executive assistant
to answer phones, screen the mail and coordinate schedules.
A knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word is a must. And a “positive, team-oriented approach [is] required,”
according to the LinkedIn job posting.
The ideal candidate should be “able to handle [the] highest level of confidential information,”
which may be the understatement of the year given the interest that investors have in Buffett’s investments.
Buffett is famous for operating the massive Berkshire conglomerate with a bare minimum of people
in the company’s home office in Omaha.
(There were 21 employees in the corporate headquarters at the time of the last annual report.)
So whoever gets hired for the job will certainly have an opportunity to rub elbows with the Oracle of Omaha.
Buffett himself already has a couple of assistants (who didn’t immediately respond to requests to confirm
the legitimacy of the job posting, by the way). Instead of working directly for Buffett, the posting sounds
as if it could involve working as the assistant to two new Berkshire hires, Todd Combs and Ted Weschler.
Combs started work at Berkshire early this year, and Weschler starts in early 2012.
Both were tapped to handle a small slice of Berkshire’s investment portfolio, and they are in line to oversee
a much larger portion of the company’s assets whenever Buffett steps down.
There’s likely to be demand for the position. Steven Kiel of Arquitos Capital Management,
a Berkshire shareholder who pointed out the job filing to Deal Journal, said:
“They should charge people to work there, rather than pay them.”

文中に、
"chares"
という単語が出てきますが、これは
"charts"
の間違いです。
辞書を引きますと、"char"にはいわゆる日本語の「お茶」の意味がありますが、
秘書に「おい、お茶を入れてくれ」と頼むわけではありません。
ただの誤植です。

一つ気になったのは、バークシャー・ハザウェイの業種分類が「保険業(insurance)」になっていることです。
ニューヨーク証券取引所の業種分類でも「保険業(Reinsurance)」になっています。
バークシャー・ハザウェイは保険会社というより既に様々な株式を保有するファンドだと思っていましたので
この業種分類は意外でした。
バークシャー・ハザウェイは既に保険業を手がけていないとすら私は思っていました。

バークシャー・ハザウェイの業種分類は、
Industry > Supersector > Sector > Subsector の順に
Financilas > Financial Services > General Financial > Investment Services
になると思います（事業規模から言えばやはり「Investment Services」が適切ではないでしょうか）。

バークシャー・ハザウェイのサイトを見ますと、バークシャー・ハザウェイ傘下の
「ウエスコ・フィナンシャル（WESCO FINANCIAL CORPORATION）」という保険会社で今でも保険業を手がけているようです。
バークシャー・ハザウェイは現在では保険業を手がけていないどころか、
2011年6月に「ウエスコ・フィナンシャル」を株式交換で完全子会社化しています。
むしろ、保険業を強化した、とも言えます。
バークシャー・ハザウェイは現在では保険業を手がけていないというのは完全に私の勘違いでした。
